Six Sentence Sunday

Here’s another six sentences from Foreshadow!

He let go, but he didn’t move away. “Now tell me, Raena. What are you doing out here in the middle of the night?” He eyed me appraisingly. “Looking quite appealing in your lovely pajamas, I might add.”

My face burned, and I felt thankful the trees were hiding the moon.

Imagine discovering that your boyfriend was out to kill you—and that the annoying boy from school was your guardian angel.

Rae Davenport has already lost her mother. The only thing keeping her sane is her new boyfriend, Andrei—that is, until she finds out that he wants to kill her. Andrei is a devil, and he wants to use Rae as a sacrifice to get back into Heaven. The only one who can save her is Logan, her guardian angel. He’s only annoyed her in the past, but now he will be her savior.

Six Sentence Sunday

It’s that time again: Six Sentence Sunday! Here’s six sentences from Foreshadow:

“You deserve so much better.”

“Oh, and are you going to be the one to treat me better? Are you saying you could treat me how I deserve to be treated?” I retorted.

He fell silent. His emerald eyes warmed as they bored into mine. “I could,” he whispered.

Here’s another six sentences from Overshadow, book two of The Shadow Imperium!

Growing desperate now, my mind reeled while I tried to figure out a way to escape him. He was infinitely stronger than me and Logan wasn’t around this time to save me. A crackling energy formed around my palms. I didn’t stop to question it. I pushed him once more, putting all my force behind it. He flew across the room and crashed into the opposite wall.

Six Sentence Sunday

Since I finished writing Overshadow, book two in The Shadow Imperium series, yesterday, I thought I would share six sentences from it.

Logan was bleeding.

I didn’t know angels could bleed.

Logan was bleeding.

Blood ran freely from a gash on his otherwise unmarred forehead, tracing a crimson river across the plane of his cheekbone before finally dripping from his chin. The sand beneath him was stained red, although it looked off in the night. His dark hair was matted and stiff where the blood had colored it as well.

Six Sentence Sunday

Here’s six sentences from Foreshadow, book one of The Shadow Imperium series!

I found myself running again, but the setting had changed. I wasn’t at the beach this time. I stood in a long hallway, and it seemed familiar for some reason.
The fog hung low in the hall, surrounding me. Fog inside a building? It didn’t make sense, but in horror, I watched as it pulled at my clothes, twisting around my legs.

Six Sentence Sunday

I had no idea where Logan had gotten his skill with swords. Maybe it was just a natural outcome of his training in self-defense. His two swords moved as if they were two halves of the same weapon and that weapon was an extension of him.
The fight moved so quickly I could barely see what was happening. One of the devils’ swords caught one of Logan’s weapons. The flats of the blades slid across each other and Logan’s wrist twisted, his sword clattering to the floor.

Six Sentence Sunday

Here’s another six sentences from FORESHADOW, book one of the Shadow Imperium series:

“Can anyone tell me something about Zoroastrianism?” he asked.
Tristan, sitting on the other side of me, raised his hand. When Mr. Villar pointed at him, he answered, “They worship a Creator called Ahura Mazda.”
“Hey, I’m down with Zoroastrianism—I could worship my car!” Logan cut in with a laugh.
“Ahura Mazda is not the same as your car,” I shot back, rolling my eyes.
“Who do you think the car was named after?” he asked sarcastically.

Character Archive: Casting Rhiannon Sorenson

Today I’m going to be sharing my “casting” of Rhiannon Sorenson from my new series The Zayin Chronicles. I thought there would be no one better to be my inspiration for Rhi than Blake Lively.

Now, ever since I “cast” Chace Crawford as Logan from my Shadow Imperium series, I’ve become a little addicted to Gossip Girl. It might seem like a silly show for an almost-30-year-old to watch, but hey, I write for teenagers. What better show to watch to help me remember the drama of high school? (Although, I have to say, there is WAY more drama on that show than there was in my high school.) When I saw Blake Lively, she just screamed Rhiannon for me. She’s exactly how I pictured Rhi.

I couldn’t find any good video clips of her “in action”. I guess YouTube is really cracking down, even on clips. Sorry!

Fun Fact Friday: The Other "Logan"

I was sitting here trying to decide what to write about for today, and then I realized something: I promised a post about my other Logan inspiration, Darien!
Now, I was technically “too old” for Sailor Moon when it first came out in the United States. I was 14 when I first saw it. I have to admit; I still watch it now, at almost 30. It’s mostly because of Darien.
The funny thing is that when I first Googled images of Darien Shields, a picture of Chace Crawford popped up, which is who I “cast” as Logan! In fact, it was the exact same picture of him that I used on my Logan casting post. Bizarre, right?
Logan’s black hair comes from Darien. His eyes were almost blue—also because of Darien. They ended up being green because that’s my (and Raena’s) favorite color. His personality is also a little similar—antagonistic in the beginning:
Would do anything to help/protect later on:

Now, I really want to know what’s up with those roses. You wouldn’t think they would do any good! In the manga (comic books), Darien/Tuxedo Mask has actual powers. The roses seem to be nothing more than distractions—but somehow they work.

I also really want to know what’s up with his black mock turtleneck/grey pants/olive green jacket combo that he always seems to wear, but I digress. He’s obviously not the clothes hound that Logan is!

You have to admit though, the tuxedo, mask, cape and top hat are kind of cool.

Even the weird bluish-purple tuxedo and cape he wears as King Endymion.
My favorite is his prince costume/uniform/whatever you want to call it. It’s something Logan would probably wear if he were going with some sort of Medieval look.
In the end, Darien would do anything for Serena, even when he’s “evil”. No, I’m not saying that Logan’s going to turn evil. I’m just saying that he would do anything for Raena.
Sorry for all the pictures! I’m going to leave you with one of my favorite episodes of Sailor Moon. It’s in three parts, thus three videos. YouTube deletes Sailor Moon episodes a lot, but hopefully this one will stay up for a little while. Enjoy!

Character Archive: Casting Logan Conner

As promised, I’m back today with my “casting” of Logan Conner, Raena’s other “main guy”.
Raena calls Logan annoying, but smoldering hot with a heavenly voice. He’s in all her classes at school and he’s extremely cocky.
I chose Chace Crawford to “play” Logan. Now, Logan actually has black hair, but other than that he’s Logan to a T.
You’d probably recognize Chace Crawford from the TV show Gossip Girl. Here are a couple of clips of him:
