Happy New Year everyone! Today marks the beginning of my year of one million words. That’s right, I’m going to write 1,000,000 words of fiction this year. Notice that I didn’t say attempt to write. That’s because I’m determined I’m going to do it. Today I clocked in with 2,750 words, which is just over the 2,740 words per day that I need to make the 1,000,000.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to be updating on my progress every day. I will do an update from time to time. If you want to keep up with my progress, there’s a counter on the left side of this blog that I will update daily.
Here are the projects I’m planning on completing this year:
Overshadow (The Shadow Imperium #2)
Queen of Shadows (The Shadow Imperium #3)
Ouroboros (The Zayin Chronicles #1)
Ravenside (Myths & Legends #1)–this is a series of stand-alone novels
Lady Lost (don’t know if this will be a standalone or a series yet)
Soul Shifters (same as above)
S.S. (code for something I’m not going to announce just yet)
PCPH project (sorry, super secret project)
Super secret collaboration
If time/word count allows, I’ll also work on book 2 & 3 of The Zayin Chronicles and possibly more of the Myths & Legends series. I know I’ve listed several “secret” projects, but I promise I will announce them asap.
Good luck with 1 million words. I’m working on writing 500,000. I know I can’t hit more than that. Three kids doesn’t allow for it. 😛
I am in awe. The counter is a great visual! I’ll have to try something like that. Wishing you success!
Liz, 500,000 is a really good goal! That’s still a lot!
Patricia, I really like having the counter. I’ll likely put up counters for my WIPs too.
I was wondering (but too lazy to do the math) how many words a day that worked out to. Gotta say that 2000 words in a day is an exceptionally good day for me — I’m notoriously slow because I can’t help but edit as I write.
Where did you get the cool counter?
Leah, I can be slow sometimes too. I’ve found it goes faster if I sprint for 15-30 minutes at a time, then take a short break and edit. Trust me, it took me a long time to be able to do that! I got the counter here: http://www.writertopia.com/toolbox/meters There are others floating around online too. I just searched for progress meters.
